Well that dreaded time arrived a few weeks ago and I am now a proper employee again. Actually, I’m only doing 3 days a week so I suppose that makes me a part-time employee instead! Either way, I’m back at work!!
Luckily, Neve gets to stay with her Granny on Wednesdays and Thursday so we don’t have to fork out for extortionate nursery fees.
Then on Fridays, I work from home in the mornings and then once Rich gets home around lunch time, he takes over and I go into the office for the rest of the day.
It’s all been working ok so far, apart from my alarm failing to go off one day which resulted in me having a mild panic attack! Pre-baby I wouldn’t even worry about such a thing as I could just get dressed and eat my breakfast in the car, but when you’ve got to organise everything for a mini person as well it takes a lot more time and effort! My mum kindly saved the day though and offered to feed Neve her breakfast at her house so I didn’t have to do as much as I normally would in the morning!
On my days off (which seem to fly by even quicker than before now there are less of them), we’ve been trying to cram in as much as possible.
The last few weeks have involved:
Neve also has unbelievably just turned 9 months old.
She’s still not decided on her next method of getting around and does a bit of backward crawling, a bit of bottom shuffling and a lot of walking around when holding onto someone or occasionally something!
Most of the time though she rolls wherever she wants and manages to get pretty much to her desired destination every time, so I’m not worried!
I’ve started thinking of birthday ideas for her and keep getting stuck, but I’m trying not to get carried away as everyone keeps telling me she won’t even realise it’s her birthday so there’s no point in spending loads of money - not that I can afford to anyway!
Things are still going with Two Birds Craft, but we’ve left off on the blog side rather a lot as it was taking over our life a bit too much! We’re still updating our Instagram feed with our progess regularly though and our Etsy shop has filled up nicely with goodies!
Will update again soon! X
An updated collage..The last one I did was from Newborn to 5 months, and my hasn’t my little one grown in the last 3 months.
She looks very different (her chubbiness has gone down quite a bit), and she has learnt a lot of new skills, rolling here there and everywhere, sitting, and recently standing when holding onto something.
She isn’t crawling or bottom shuffling but is perfectly able to get anything she wants (and most often things Mummy doesn’t want her to have), by wriggling about one way or another.
I’ve gone back to work now so she’s spending two days a week at Granny’s. This has made me realise even more how fast she is growing up and how I need to capture as much as possible so I don’t forget all these exciting things she keeps doing!
Today we went to the zoo with Nana and Grampy, we had a lovely day and enjoyed a yummy picnic whilst we were there.
This beautiful weather we’ve been having has meant there has been a lot of picnics recently, I’ve had 5 alfresco lunches this week alone!!
I’ve loved being outside so much though, and Neve seems to have been in a really good mood the last week which I think could be to do with the sunshine.
Long may it last!!
I love Instagram and post at least one photo most days.
I’ve always fancied joining in with one of the Photo-a-day challenges but when you have a small person to look after, your photo subjects are limited.
So when I came across the May Baby Photo-A-Day challenge, I was very happy! As Neve is definitely my favourite photo subject, this was a photo challenge I actually should be able to complete!!
I’ve been good and remembered to update with a picture every day so far..and have been really enjoying thinking up things to take a picture of that are slightly outside of the box, rather than just photographing the really obvious.
The picture above shows how I’ve got on so far, i’ll post another update at the end of May when the challenge has finished to show how I got on.

As well as starting up Two Birds Craft, I have of course been doing my normal mummy duties…
Neve is really turning into a chatter box now and has been impressing everyone with her new words “mamama” and “dadada”.
She’s also become a lot more wriggly and has been rolling all over the place. She’s been able to roll over for a while now but has only really done it when she has to, but now she seems to be enjoying it and I even keep finding her in the morning asleep on her tummy!
Here’s some rolly pictures from this morning:
We’ve also just started going to Treasure Baskets on a Thursday. I didn’t really know what to expect but it was very interesting. I’m not sure if Neve liked it or not, she just watched all the other babies in amazement rather than picking anything out of the baskets herself. I think she’s going to be a people watcher!
I expect over the next few weeks she’ll get more confident and start to join in herself anyway.
On a very depressing note, I only have 4 weeks left until I go back to work :-(
I can’t believe how fast the last couple of months have flown by. Luckily i’m only doing 3 days a week so I won’t miss out on spending too much time with my Nevie.
It will be nice to get back to work though and get back into a proper routine..we’re pretty organised now but I do have the odd lazy day where the routine just goes out the window and then feel bad about it so I will have no excuse soon!
In a couple of week my bestest buddy Caroline is coming to visit (you can look at her super blog here http://carolinehendry.tumblr.com/ )
She last came to visit in March and in our terms that is a very long time so I’m very excited about her visit.
Since I was pregnant and then had Neve she has come down to visit here lots and I haven’t been able to return the visits to her neck of the woods so I hope to be able to once Neve is a bit older so I can show her where I grew up, and to save Caroline some money!!
Sorry if I have been boring people with all the posts for my new joint venture Two Birds Craft, but looking at the traffic a lot of the visits have been redirected from Tumblr so it has done some good! If you are interested in crafting, please check us out at http://www.twobirdscraft.blogspot.com
That’s all for now anyway, I’ll try and update again before too long!
Me and my friend Anna have been thinking for a while about putting our crafty skills together and starting up a new venture to put those skills to good use.
Yesterday we had a little catch up and set up all our online profiles for our new project.
It’s all very much a work in progress at the moment but please feel free to have a look at our blog and follow us on Twitter and Instagram

The arran weight equates to worsted weight in the USA but is slightly heavier than DK. Or it could relate to the hook size which is 3.75-4.44mm. 4ply or sport weight is approx half the weight of DK or worsted so much finer.
A great resource for newbie hookers…
When we were learning to crochet, we found there was a real trove of free information, patterns and tutorials to be found online. Whilst these were amazingly helpful in getting us started, there was a little confusion in using them due to the differences in terminology between UK and US patterns.
We have already covered the different stitch terms and hook sizes in tables earlier in the blog. The final hurdle was the terms for the yarns suggested at the start of the patterns. It took a while before we realised that ‘DK’ or ‘Double Knit’ yarn is the same as ‘Worsted Weight’ yarn over in the states!
Here is yet another useful table to help you avoid any confusion as you get hooking.
There will be further fibre related posts each Wednesday. If you would like us to cover a particular subject one week, please comment or email us here.
I actually have a question about this. Is US yarn different from UK yarn altogether? Because I buy a lot of worsted weight yarn, but it always says 4 (Medium). So how is that different from the UK/Australia 4-ply: sport weight?
I’ve been getting creative in the finger tip area recently…
Before the baby came along I would quite often be seen sporting painted talons. Infact my midwife even commented on my nicely painted nails when I was in labour!
This turned out to be pretty poignant as that was the last time my nails looked nice for about 4 and a half months!!
But now that I’ve managed to bring Neve’s bedtime forward even earlier and have more time for myself I thought it was time I started doing something for ME again, something which I didn’t realise was so important until I actually did it!
I’m not moaning as I don’t begrudge my motherly duties one bit, I even find cleaning and preparing bottles rather therapeutic and have got it down to quite a fine art now! But anyway, it’s just nice to be able to do something that doesn’t effect anyone else and is just for your own enjoyment!
My first new nail purchase took me back to my 8 year old days when the only nail polish I knew was the glittery kind. But judging by Instagram, glitter polish seems to have made a come back. I chose a polish made by Model’s Own who I haven’t tried before but they had such an exciting collection of glitter polishes that I couldn’t resist!
To avoid looking like Barbie, I decided to only paint one nail with glitter, just for a bit of extra sparkle. And I was pleased with the result!
Next, I decided to try another new nail craze which is magnetic nail polish.
The polish itself has magnetic particles in it which react when put near a magnet.
I chose a purple colour by 17 at Boots. The magnet it came with creates a wave effect. It took a bit of practice but in the end I liked the effect it made. I think I’ll try some of Barry M’s magnetic polishes before long as their magnets make different shapes, all of 17’s are the wave effect but they do come in 4 different colours.
Lastly I tried Barry M’s foil effect varnish in Lilac (limited edition).
I really like the colour of this polish, it only needed one good coat too which was a bonus. It doesn’t REALLY look like foil but it does have more of a shine to it than regular polish. The foil effect polishes also come in silver and gold.
This is my favourite of my recent buys and I can see it being used a lot, hopefully they will decide to make it a permanent fixture rather than limited edition!
